ROCK IN THE BOG
THERE WILL BE NO FESTIVAL IN 2010
Lewes Folk Rock Festival has been acknowledged as one of Lewes's major cultural events and its reputation has grown over the last 6 years. It is renowned for high quality, internationally known, acts and a great atmosphere enjoyed by audience and performers alike.
This has been achieved largely through headline bands agreeing to perform for substantially reduced fees on the promise of a great gig and great hospitality. Usually this means various members of the organisational team accommodating several groups of musicians at their homes.
While this has worked so far, it has become clear this isn't a sustainable model for growth. The income from the event is limited by venue capacity and the need to maintain a sensible ticket price.
In endeavouring to program 2010's event we have realised that we cannot finance the calibre of headline acts we need to maintain the event's growing reputation.
2010 will therefore be a year of rest during which we will investigate the options for external funding.
Thanks to everyone who sent demos and promo material in for 2009. These, of course, will be kept on record for 2011.
