Review of 2006 Festival
We got a 4/5 rating (which means "A very good example of this show's genre" from the up and coming on-line reviewers
Three Weeks who started covering Edinburgh and covered the Brighton Festival for the first time this year. The review is shown in full below...(I reckon we would have got a 5/5 if they had come along on the Saturday evening!)
Not sure where the families reference comes from as children were not strictly allowed to attend! We thought the age mix was the best so far with many more under 25's than previous occasions. There is without doubt a resergence of interest in the type of music we are putting on - witness the rise in offshoots of folk music currently bubbling away, with names like nu-folk, alt.folk, weird folk, laptop folk, folktronica, post-folk and twisted folk. The organisers, Steve and Jon caught the new band "Eighteenth Day of May" live recently who go out under the twisted folk banner and they would certainly not be out of place at our festival - in fact, we should try to book them! :-)
Lewes Folk Rock Festival
Orange Sky Promotions
A refreshing change from the DJ driven beaches of Brighton, this laid back
folk-rock festival has lots on offer over its two-day awakening. The
highlight on Friday night came from the wonderful mixture of Celtic and
Australian sounds, that howled through the speakers as Kangaroo Moon took to the stage. Armed with didgeridoos, pipes and violins, they charmed the crowd, like snakes, with their infectious rhythms and melodies. The festival took place in the All Saint Centre, offering a small bar equipped with real ales and a delicious food stall. Arguably, it did not live up to the expectations of a 'real' festival - but it has certainly planted the right seeds for it to grow in the future, providing a sociable, fun
atmosphere - especially appropriate for families and ageing hippies.
